Van der Vaart set to miss festive period

Tottenham look like being without Rafael van der Vaart for the busy Christmas period of matches after he suffered another hamstring injury.

The Dutch forward was forced off at half-time in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Thursday and manager Harry Redknapp admitted he will probably have to do without the player for their upcoming three matches.

"I'd think he would be out for the festive period," Redknapp said. "He seems to suffer from hamstring problems a lot and he's got another one.

"He is a great player but we need him fit and at present we can't keep him on the pitch."

Tottenham face trips to Norwich and then Swansea before a home match against West Brom on 2 January.

The club go into the Christmas period in third place in the Barclays Premier League and Redknapp is delighted with how the season has gone for his side.

"It has been a fantastic start," he added. "To have 35 points at this stage of the season is amazing after losing our first two games. I couldn't be more pleased.

"We have got to continue our form to finish in the top four. It is going to be a great second half to the season."
