Manchester United star Phil Jones looks set to play in their Boxing Day match at home to Wigan after scans revealed he has not broken his cheekbone.
The club had expected the 19-year-old to be sidelined after he was injured in the 5-0 win at Fulham.
But manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Phil Jones should be okay for Monday. We feared the worst but there is no break."
Jones' availability will be welcome news for Ferguson, who is already missing a number of key players.
Captain Nemanja Vidic is out for the season and fellow defender Rio Ferdinand is doubtful for the Wigan match, while midfielder Darren Fletcher has decided to take some time off on medical advice.
The news on winger Ashley Young was not as good as Ferguson revealed he will miss the next few weeks with a knee injury.
